Tuesday 14 July 2020, Day 44 of Level 4, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for such a beautiful sunshine day, feeling warmer than the 17C forecast, lifting the spirits immediately; for a calm and peaceful day; for Loadshedding well timed from 14h00, my writing done, allowing me a good walk, first in Camps Bay and tagging Bakoven on to it too, to pass the time; for such amazing storm scenery to photograph; for dancing to Kfm Dansdag; for a chat to Stuart Bailey, to congratulate him on a project 99% completed; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙
My story for today, after a long deep sleep, was about a survey Dineplan conducted amongst diners about eating out during Lockdown, and also about their willingness to order Food on a Delivery and a Collection basis.
I had a long chat with Duncan Heafield from Durban, an activist commendably trying to keep the hospitality industry on its feet. I’ll write a story on the insurance disaster restaurants face, not being paid out for the Business Rescue clause they have signed up for. 😱 I’m not sure how much more restaurants can take.
I was gobsmacked on my walk today. Camps Bay pavements and lawns on the Beachfront covered in kelp and beach sand, looking like a war zone. At the Tidal Pool the lawn looked like snow, covered in beach sand and shells. The Gents side of the public toilet has flooded.
The biggest surprise of all is that the Kiddy Pool has disappeared completely, completely filled with and buried by beach sand. Wow. 😱
In Bakoven houses on the beach were covered in brown foam, one bungalow being hosed down this afternoon. There still are massive waves, crashing against the rocks. I was happy that so little litter washed out onto the Beachfront with the other marine debris.
I watched Minsky running after birds on the neighboring erf where she loves to play, the birds tweeting away in excitement about the lovely sunshine weather. Im sure she hasn’t caught any yet. She had so much fun that she is fast asleep on my bed already. 😻😻😻

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, and lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
