International Travel to/from South Africa picking up slowly again!

Business Insider today has summarised which airlines are currently servicing our South African airports, and which others will be doing the same soon. While we are seeing few tourists in our city, there definitely must be incoming international tourists, given the number of flights arriving in our country.

Many flights operating currently are from other African countries.

Fewer than half of the airlines which flew to South Africa prior to the start of our Lockdown are operating in our country currently, the article states.

The Business Insider List of airlines currently flying to SA is as follows:

#   Ethiopian Airlines

#   Lufthansa

#   TAAG (Angola),

#   Qatar Airways

#    Turkish Airways

#   Air Botswana

#   Air Mozambique

#   EgyptAir

#   Fastjet (Zimbabwe)

#   Kenya Airways

#   Proflight Zambia

#   Airlink (Local airline flying into Africa)

Airlines planning to fly into South Africa in the near future:

#   Emirates (8 April)

#   KLM (15 April)

#   British Airways (16 April)

#   Virgin Atlantic (Early June)

POSTSCRIPT 7/4:  On Facebook Tovi Don responded to my Blogpost link as follows: ‘El Al (Israel) just announced 1 weekly flight to JHB from first week of May’.

POSTSCRIPT 7/4:  Lisa Harlow from the UK, and a huge SA fan, posted the following on Facebook in reaction to this post:

‘British Airways – 16 April 2021

British Airways, which operated daily flights between London, OR Tambo, and Cape Town prior to the pandemic – and returned with limited services in October – suspended all flights to and from South Africa on 23 December.

This flight ban has since been extended several times, with the airline proposing the earliest return date of 16 April 2021.

“We have not been and are not currently operating passenger flights to or from South Africa due to current restrictions,” said British Airways’ press office, with reference to the ongoing ban on South African travellers into the United Kingdom (UK).’
