Utopia Restaurant launches best value Tasting Menu in Cape Town, as well as Special Sunday Lunch Menu!



Utopia Restaurant has launched its first ever Tasting Menu, offering five beautiful courses on Monday to Thursday evenings, at an amazingly low cost of R195, the lowest in Cape Town for a Tasting Menu. It has also introduced a Family-friendly Special Sunday Lunch Menu, accompanied by live entertainment. It has  introduced new dishes to its À la carte menu.

Utopia towers above all other restaurants in Cape Town in being the highest, located on the 15th floor of the Mirage building in De Waterkant, offering magnificent 360 degree views of Cape Town. 

Last month I ate at Utopia for the first time, and was impressed with the location of the restaurant, as well as with the quality of its food offering.

Tasting Menu


Earlier this week Utopia launched its new Tasting Menu, offering two seafood starters, two meat courses, and an exquisite dessert, all beautifully designed and presented by Chef Pavel Dimitrov and his team. The five courses making up the Tasting Menu are the following:


#    Ceviche of Cape Salmon, cured with lime juice, and seasoned with red onion, red peppers, olive oil, and fresh chili, a refreshing and colourful start to the meal.


#   Spicy Prawns, sautéed with chili, and with garlic, tomato, capers, and flambéed with white wine.


#   Springbok fillet, pan-roasted, served with parsnip purée, and a Port wine jus. (Right)


# Sautéed beef, served with Lyonnaise onions, wild mushrooms, and a veal jus. (Left)


#   The cherry on top is the Créme Brûlée dessert, its vanilla-baked custard and seasonal fresh berries as colourful as the view is onto Bo-Kaap from one of the seating sections of the restaurant, facing Table Mountain and Lion’s Head.


Special Sunday Lunch Menu


For the first time, Utopia offers a special Family-orientated menu for Sunday Lunch.  Chef Pavel has created six dishes which are offered as generous portions at special prices below those on the A la Carte menu:


#   The Wagyu Beef Burger, which is offered with a serving of chips or a side salad, costing R140


#   A beautiful Prawn Linguini with tomato and fresh chili, at R140




#    Wild mushroom risotto, at R95




#   Baby Chicken served with a choice of a lemon and herb sauce or a peri peri sauce, and a choice of chips or a side salad, at R140


#   Grilled longline Hake, with a choice of chips or a side salad, at R140


#   Beef kebab with chips or a side salad, at R150.



On Sundays Lunch diners will be entertained by the Kim & Didi Jazz Duo, Kim singing favourite light jazz melodies. The Duo have been travelling the world on cruise liners, entertaining passengers for the past three years, now based in Cape Town during the Corona Lockdown.


À la carte menu


The À la carte menu too has undergone a number of changes, with new dishes added to the menu, including Grilled Octopus, Fish cakes, Chicken liver parfait, Butternut and Gorgonzola salad, Scallop and fish curry, Sweetcorn and basil risotto, Short Rib, Yoghurt parfait, Cape Malva, Orange Crème Brûlèe, and Death by Chocolate.

General Manager Patso Ivanov is offering Utopia diners the À la carte menu alongside the new Tasting Menu on Mondays to Thursdays, with the spoil of a complimentary glass of MAN Vintners white or red wine accompanying all À la carte Main Course orders.

Utopia follows all Covid regulations, with diners’ temperatures taken, a register completed, and hands sanitised, while staff wear masks.
