Tuesday 9 June 2020, Day 9 of Level 3, after 66 days at Levels 5 and 4. đŸ˜·

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a busy day, turned upside down in its usual routine, a nice change; for a good and deep sleep; for a coffee visit to discuss our Tourist Guiding forms to be handed in to the provincial Tourist body by Martin Koch, a laugh-a-minute class and First Aid course colleague, who grew up in Paarl, which was my second home town alongside Wellington, his politician mother and grandmother very well-known; for Martin boldly helping Minsky to aquaint herself to the outdoor, loving it, having her first tree climb today, and now lights-out after all the outdoor excitement đŸ±; for a smooth trip to Sea Point to hand in my FitBit to be sent for repair 😱, to have my bracelets repaired at FreeRange, and doing a Winter Weather Lockdown shop at the Garden’s Centre, including some wine, given the forecast of very strong storms and snow heading our way from tonight; for feeling no hip pain today, allowing me to walk all the way to Clifton First Beach this afternoon, feeling super refreshed when I got home, meeting Lisa Hayden on the way, only having ‘met’ on Messenger to date; for being so happy that I danced to Kfm Dansdag, to old favorites such as Mambo no 5 and Makarena 💃; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a surprisingly warm start to the day, despite it being very misty, when I left home to exercise at 7h30, the cyclists having their lights on, getting up to Clifton First Beach; with fewer bags on the pavements and fortunately none torn open; for the rain falling overnight; for the generosity of Margit and Chris Roberts, residents of Camps Bay, for making a further contribution to Camps Bay Clean, which I collected from their home after the walk; for the Pick n Pay Manager finding me a box of Smarties at another store and having it collected, so that I can collect it from them tomorrow (stockpiling Gary Peterson… 😂); for not having writing pressure this morning as I had written the story about the Court finding the Level 3 and Level 4 regulations to be ‘unconstitutional and invalid’ last night already, for revisiting Dinkel Bakery and Peppertree CafĂ©, each sending me a message today that their free-range eggs and lemon chiffon cake, respectively, had arrived; for experiencing the professional Covid service of a security officer at a building of law firms on Keerom Street, having my temperature taken, at 35C, when I went to collect a file; for getting to my laundry service with my laundry of 66 days, and being able to receive it back tomorrow; for an ice cream treat at The Dairy Den in Sea Point, it having been on top of my list of places to go when it reopened; for having a spoil dinner of Lamb curry with yellow rice and sambals as well as Malva Tart delivered to my home by CafĂ© Charles in De Waterkant 🙏; and for being fit and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Unframed in Cape Town named Best Ice Cream Parlour in the World!

Unframed ice cream shop, with branches on Kloof Street, the Food Market in the Waterfront, and in Woodstock, has been named by Big 7 Travel as the world’s ‘Best Ice Cream Parlour’! It beat 49 other ice cream shops from around the world to win this title, proving yet again that Cape Town is the gourmet capital of our country, as well as of Africa, Unframed being the only ice cream shop in Africa making the list of top 50. My Top 21 recommendations for what to see and do in Havana, Cuba!

I arrived in Havana on 3 July 2019, with no preparation of what I wanted to see or do, except that I wanted to learn to dance the Salsa. I was lucky that a slightly out of date ‘Cuba’ Guide by Lonely Planet was lying in the lounge of the San Lazaro BnB I stayed at. I annexed it for the more than three weeks that I stayed there, and found useful background information in it, but perhaps it contains too much information, not just focused on Havana, my only destination in Cuba, therefore making a large part of the book irrelevant to me. Much more useful was the Guidebook ‘300 Things to love about Havana’ by Heidi Hollinger, focused on Havana, divided into the various suburbs of Havana, with an address, a good representative photograph, and largely accurate in its descriptions, even if published in 2018.
