Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a well-organized busy day; for four hours of writing and working this morning, preparing for two Status meetings; for Status meetings at Utopia, a shorter meeting than usual; for a beautiful hot day at 27C, with the South Easter picking up this afternoon, a very dramatic table cloth of cloud on Table Mountain; Continue reading →

Monday 13 September 2021, Day 1 of Level 2

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a continuous 8 hour sleep, a luxury I haven’t had in ages, feeling energized for what I knew was going to be a busy day; for a sunny day with a mild South-Easter; for work work work work work, Mondays always being busier and closing times having to be changed on all our platforms when we go into a new Lockdown Level; for a maintenance contractor coming to quote on a balustrade at the apartment, something I have begged Sandak Lewin to do for the past 2 years, the contractor sounding very knowledgeable, so much Continue reading →

Sunday 12 September 2021, Day 47 of Level 3 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a rainy morning, ideal for staying in bed and to catch up on a very busy and at times stressful week; for the weather clearing, with a lovely sunny afternoon; for surviving a shortage of sleep after a massive noise disturbance by the Nigerian tenant of Rhode Snyman’s Ebbtide 101 apartment after midnight, having to call the police and the security company; for a lovely refreshing longer, more exerting walk in Camps Bay; for starting to write some Blogposts for the week ahead; and for being happy, healthy and free. 🙏💙

Super excited that Utopia is one of three nominees for the World Culinary Awards’ Best Rooftop Restaurant in Africa! Just a few weeks after making the Kfm Top 5 Date Night Restaurant in the Cape. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you Kelly Szabo for spotting it. 🙏

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March 2020 and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January 2021, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, moved back to Adjusted Level 2 on 31 May, moved back to level 3 on 16 June, and moved back to Adjusted Level 4 on 28 June, extended by two weeks on 11 July, and returned to Level 3 on 26 July, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.

#Grateful for another fabulous day, they are just getting better and better 💙; for the luck of a 4th restaurant added to my Client Portfolio today, pinching myself to check if this is real; for the excitement of working with a brand new restaurant, opening next month, attending a glassware selection and cocktail tasting today, oh what fun, meeting new suppliers and reconnecting with the mixologist Aidan Powrie, whom I hadn’t seen in 2 years; for collecting my poppyseed roll order from Dinkel Bakery; for amazing reaction to a Dinner Bed & Breakfast promotion Utopia is running with the Villa Rosa guest house in Sea Point; for a chatty Status Meeting and Dilmah Earl Continue reading →
