Matt’s Homespun opens second restaurant, at The Andros Boutique Hotel in Claremont

I have the highest regard for Chef Matt Schreuder of Homespun in Blouberg, for the creativity of his world class Secret Supper Club in particular, and his Tasting Menus which are of a Top 10 Restaurant standard.

Ahead of the official opening on Friday 18 June, I was invited to a ‘friends and family’ preview of Chef Matt’s new Homespun at The Andros 5 star Boutique Hotel in Claremont on Saturday evening. It was my first visit to the Hotel.  The Hotel has an old-world charm and dates back to 1908. It was designed by renowned Sir Herbert Baker.  It has 15 rooms. Parking is available on the propperty. It has a delightful Champagne Bar. Continue reading →

Sunday 30 May 2021, Day 91 of Level 1 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a very foggy morning turning into such a beautiful day, perfect for the Camps Bay Community Litter clean up we did this morning; for being spoilt with tea by The 41 restaurant, our sponsor; for a safe drive to the Tyger Waterfront and back, starting with an ice cream spoil at The Dairy Den in Willowbridge; for a good Status meeting with my new client Harvest Culture Eaterie, followed by its launch function this evening; for getting home safely, despite more roadworks Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 85 of Level 1, 24 May 2021.

Monday 24 May 2021, Day 85 of Level 1 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a solid 7 hour sleep; a busy day, writing and writing most of the day; for a grey day, rain forecast to roll in tonight; for a lovely refreshing walk through Bakoven, up Houghton Road, and down the 100 Houghton Steps, to stretch from the all-day sitting; blessed with the most amazing sunset, changing in colour as I walked back home; and for being happy, healthy, and free. 🙏💙

My Blogpost was about the fabulous lunch we had at Harvest Culture Eaterie on Saturday.

Harvest Culture Eaterie opens Modern Bistro in Tyger Falls Waterfront, celebrates Earth’s bounty!

My Earl Grey has an excellent nose, a cat gourmet, who loves the smell of my food. I had noticed him often scratching in a kitchen corner, thinking he was scooping up a bit of food in it. Last night I heard him being very active in the kitchen, with little squeals. I went to look, thinking that he had hurt himself. Anything but…. he was playing with a mouse that must have come out of a hole in the corner, and probably lived off the cat food at night. It ended off badly for the mouse, Grey playing with it the whole night through, making him exhausted today, sleeping all day. Henry helped to close the hole and dispose of the poor mouse. 🙀😿 Minsky was completely disinterested in all of this.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.

Harvest Culture Eaterie opens Modern Bistro in Tyger Falls Waterfront, celebrates Earth’s bounty!

In speaking to Homespun Chef Matt Schreuder about his new restaurant opening at The Andros Boutique Hotel next month, he told me that his father, the well-known restaurateur Dale Schreuder known for the Dale’s steakhouses he has owned over the past more than 30 years, has opened a new restaurant with a completely different concept.

Harvest Culture Eaterie is Dale’s tenth restaurant, and describes itself as a ‘modern Bistro’, ‘celebrating Earth’s bounty’ .
