Sweet Service Award goes to BP President in Sea Point; Sour Service Award goes to McQueens!

The Sweet Service Award goes to BP President in Regent Road, Sea Point, and its amazing petrol attendant Mike, who greeted me with a ‘welcome’, and proactively asked if he could check the oil, water, and tyres of my car, also giving me proactive feedback about one of the tyres being slightly below the correct pressure. I have never experienced such service at Engen in the years that I fueled up there. Having switched to Discovery Insurance for my car, I have to fuel up at BP or Shell to gain member benefits.

Tuesday 30 June 2020, Day 30 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a most wonderful day today, that just started off amazingly, carrying on throughout the day; for getting my writing work done early this morning, having written most of it yesterday already; for the most amazing friendly service at BP when I put in petrol early this morning, to avoid the queue later in the day; for a fabulous fresh and refreshing walk through Camps Bay, bumping into Thomas and Haakon yet again; for popping in at Sunset Sessions to buy a treat for Henry; for sitting 2 hours before the Body Corporate AGM to do my last preparation, Henry helping me to log into Microsoft Teams for the online AGM; for a surprisingly pleasant AGM, all my upfront preparation work paying off; for a lovely celebratory walk after the meeting, enjoying taking pics at Glen Beach and the Camps Bay Tidal Pool; for a celebratory glass of Shiraz; for dancing 💃 to Kfm Dansdag; and for being very happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Chalk & Cork dirty, average food, with abusive Chalk & Cheek!

Chalk & Cork logo Whale CottageI was bombarded with a barrage of Tweets when the new owners of Mozzarella Bar on Kloof Street first opened in July, having bought the business from ‘Mr Charm’ Giorgio Nava.  Nava must have sold the owners Amy and Marc Botes a good dose of rudeness and cheek too, which is what I experienced when I popped in at the now renamed Chalk & Cork, waiting for my car to be washed at the Engen garage nearby, earlier this week. I enjoyed going to the Mozzarella Bar, with its charming Italian manager Simone, previoulsy.

I photographed the counter as one enters (there is no signage at the entrance, but only on the low wall of Chalk & Cork Interior Whale Cottagethe outside seating, visible to all passing on Kloof Street (the patrons that is, and not the branding)!  The waitress could not tell me why the restaurant is named Chalk & Cork, other than to say that they have a lot of wine on the winelist!  She could not explain the ‘Chalk‘ part.   There is a cork collection building up on both sides of the front door.  The downstairs entrance doesn’t appear to have changed much, although there is more equipment against the back wall behind the counter compared to the Mozzarella Bar.  The Pizza oven is still there, as is the drinks fridge. They are no longer selling Mozzarella, which will be available at Piazza Italia, up the road on Park Road.  Upstairs they can seat 30 patrons.  On a rainy day they have next to no business, the upstairs seating not being visible nor known.  Continue reading →
