Thursday 2 September 2021, Day 38 of Level 3 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for another fabulous day, starting at zero and ending at 100; for surviving the fourth sleep disturbance night in a row thanks to the Nigerians; for my pool working perfectly now; for preparing for my status meetings of this afternoon; for a Bakoven walk; for a shopping trip condensed into an hour, fetching my rolls at Dinkel Bakery, buying my German treats at Hartlief; for a treat of Appeltaart and cream at Labotessa Café, and a surprise gift from owner Johan of the fabulous Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 28 of Level 3, 23 August 2021!

Monday 23 August 2021, Day 28 of Level 3 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a sunny day at 18C, but chilly now as clouds roll in for rain later tonight, with very cold winter weather awaiting us from Thursday onwards; for an early Manager meeting at Zest, the first which I have attended, followed by a Marketing meeting with Chef Pavel, and then greeting two sets of Camps Bay guests in the restaurant; for having the slow tyre leak fixed at Super Quick in Sea Point, taking 5 minutes and costing only R100; for donating blood, receiving a cooler bag which doubles up as a seat too, it is so strong, and a pair of socks, which I’ll donate to a car guard; for a working Continue reading →

Meet Chef Judi Fourie of Pilcrow & Cleaver and Fideli’s: 2021 Top 10 Woman Chef!

Chef Judi Fourie received recognition as one of the Cape’s Top Women Restaurateurs last year. This year she has been selected as a 2021 Top 10 Woman Chef, owning both Pilcrow & Cleaver as well as Fideli’s on Parliament Street in the Cape Town city centre, as well as three Judith Fresh Cafés. She received a bottle of Adhara Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil as her prize.
Chef Judi fearlessly opened Fideli’s nine months ago, and offered a weekly menu for Pilcrow & Cleaver which one could collect or have delivered. It was the restaurant  I supported the most during Lockdown, collecting a freshly-made order combined with a friendly chat with Chef Judi, and a shop at Fdeli’s. She is an innovative marketer, most recently handing out Fideli’s vouchers as a thank you to persons who have been vaccinated. She is a trailblazer for SASSI, supporting sustainable fishing.

Friday 21 August 2021, Day 26 of Level 3 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#gratitude for such a wonderful day, with no stress or strain; for an admin and writing catch up day, allowing me some time off this weekend; for a visit by Anna Marie V. Tielmann, who saw me on my terrace when she walked past with her baby son, catching up on 6 months since we had last seen each other; for a wonderful Bakoven walk, seeing three heart and one dancer clouds; for my Minsky showing me so much love, being far more housebound than ever before, finally having forgiven me Continue reading →
