Fideli’s Deli opens its doors to freshness and finest foods and wines to enjoy, or to take home!

 

Yesterday Fideli’s opened on Parliament Street on Church Square in the City centre, a very fine Deli as well as eating and drinking spot next door to Pilcrow & Cleaver, both owned by the very enterprising Chef Judi Fourie. The space was previously that of Kleinsky’s. While small, it spills out into a covered side section, almost doubling its size. I have not seen such beautiful presentation of food and beverages in a Deli before, as I did at Fideli’s yesterday.

I became the first customer of the new Fideli’s, as I was looking for a gift to take to a lunch I was heading to, but of course could not resist filling up my own pantry with some of the delectable items. Continue reading →

Celebrating Vegan Month with a B-Well Vegan Mayonnaise Chocolate Cake in a Cup!

 

It is clear to see that the Vegan trend is growing by leaps and bounds.  In Camps Bay, for example, three restaurants out of twenty in the suburb are almost completely Vegan in the fare they offer, particularly okja and Plant Food, while Firefly Café has a large percentage of Vegan dishes. Even regular restaurants have a number of Vegan dishes on their menus.

In honour of Vegan Month I was challenged by B-Well, together with a number of other ‘Influencers’, to bake a Vegan Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake in a Mug, the mayonnaise ingredient intriguing me in particular, and therefore I agreed  to participate. Continue reading →

It’s on everyone’s lips. It’s causing mayhem on stock markets around the world. It’s affecting the sporting world with major international events being cancelled or postponed. It’s affecting any large gathering of persons, such as conferences, festivals, trade shows, and exhibitions, many cancelled. And it is starting to affect our tourism industry, with first cancellations hitting hotels. It’s the Corona Virus, this strain called COVID-19. Pick n Pay goes ‘nude’, trials plastic-free Fruit and Vegetable shopping!

On Facebook I saw an article that attracted my interest and attention, being a proud litter cleaner in Camps Bay, about Pick n Pay trialing the use of paper bags in its fruit and vegetable departments, and selling these items loose and not pre-packaged, in 13 of its stores around the country.
