Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 98 of Level 1, 6 January 2022

Thursday 6 January 2022, Day 98 of Level 1, birthday of Alex von Ulmenstein and Mullerie Taljaard 🌹🌹

Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a beautiful 27 C degree day, making Camps Bay very busy, with a very strong late afternoon South Easter, meaning it will be even warmer tomorrow; for a birthday call to my Alex, starting to plan his visit to Cape Town in 15 days ❤️; for preparing for my client meetings this afternoon; for a successful visit to the Civic Center, to renew my car license, but annoyed that one has to enter from the back of the building without any signage, and answer numerous questions just to be allowed in, for being able to jump the queue of persons who had waited for 90 minutes into the red Continue reading →

Exclusive Books Café Sweet Service; Incredible Connection Sour Service Awards!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Exclusive Books CafĂ© in the V & A Waterfront, and its barista Gugu Gumede. I was deciding between two books by the same author, and sat at one of the CafĂ© tables to do so. Gugu appeared with a dry cappuccino, perfectly made, without taking my order, remembering from a previous visit how I love my cappuccino. I only visit the CafĂ© infrequently, and have rarely had good service there in the past, making Gugu’s proactive service even more remarkable! I bought both books in the end! Continue reading →

Incredible Connection Sweet Service and Vodacom Sour Service Awards!

Incredible Connection 2The Sweet Service Award goes to Incredible Connection in the V&A Waterfront, for offering a keyboard I bought at a reduced price, given that the price on their system was lower than the price on the box!  The computer retailer has a bad reputation for being expensive, in my experience, and I have never had the pleasure of paying less for anything over the years of buying there!

Incredible Connection Sweet and Sour Service Awards!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Incredible Connection at Canal Walk, and its sales executive Danie Marx.  Remembering good service from Danie at the city centre branch, who had since moved to the Canal Walk branch, I called him.  He agreed to wait for me to drive to the branch, and waited with me in making the sale of a new Samsung laptop and in attempting to set up basic functions, even though he was meant to go home at 5 pm. When I returned the following day for a colleague to set up the e-mail programme, Danie was there to make sure that all went smoothly, and did not charge for the technical support.

The Sour Service Award goes to Incredible Connection in the city centre, to whom I first went for the purchase of the new laptop.  The salesman tried to sell me the top-end Samsung, at R3000 more than the model that Danie at the Canal Walk branch had suggested to suit my needs.  The crowning glory was that when I wanted to test the laptop, I was told that they had run out of their internet cap for the month, which would only be topped up at the beginning of the next month, three days later! It is astounding that a computer sales outlet is not using an uncapped computer service, to enable it to demonstrate its products!

The WhaleTales Sweet & Sour Service Awards are presented every Friday on the WhaleTales blog.  Nominations for the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be sent to Chris von Ulmenstein at info@whalecottage.com.   Past winners of the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be read on the Friday posts of this blog, and in the WhaleTales newsletters on the www.whalecottage.com website.
