P

Cape Town and Winelands Restaurants have been quick to set up a Delivery and/or Collection Service, since President Ramaphosa announced the Level 4 Lockdown on Sunday,  closing down all restaurants for Sit-Down Service in the country.

Whilst surviving two restaurant closures in Lockdown last year, this restaurant Level 4 closure appears to have caught many by surprise. Many restaurateurs have become wiser through last year’s experience, and have calculated the break even point in terms of minimum income to be made. Tuesday 9 February 2021, Day 45 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 340 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful day, warm, but windy now, making it hard to walk back home; for my housekeeper Portia doing a monthly spring clean, I doing so too on my desk, getting my admin work up to date; for Jared of Camps Bay Hardware delivering a new pool blanket, after the previous one disintegrated, at about one third of the cost of one bought via a pool company 🙏; for soon no longer being a contract client of Vodacom, receiving information about how to go about it; for a visit to CitiVet in Camps Bay, for Mr Grey’s vaccinations, driving with me in the car without a carrier, so well behaved there too; for a Camps Bay only walk, not feeling as energetic at the end of the day; for an uneventful shop at Pick n Pay, Camps Bay being quiet today with little litter; and for being happy and healthy . 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: New ëlgr. has most complex restaurant name, a breath of fresh air, food light and multi-cultural!

P

The new ëlgr. restaurant which has taken over the space of the former Janse & Co is a breath of fresh air, having moved more of its restaurant seating to its newly created outside seating area, bar and pizza counter area. It opened on Kloof Steeet two months ago.

It has the most complicated restaurant name I have ever come across, a Swedish word that means moose, but the reason for the choice is not explained. It is pronounced like the composer Elgar. With such a Scandinavian introduction, one might expect the food to be from the region too, but it is local yet ‘multicultural’, its website informs, offering French cooking, South African dishes, and Italian pizzas., made with fresh ingredients, and to be enjoyed in a relaxed environment.  Continue reading →
