Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 91 of Level 1, 20 December 2020

Sunday 20 December 2020, Day 91 of Level 1, Day 270 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a fabulous day of birthday celebration, first with my Camps Bay Cleaners, who joined me for cupcakes & tea before we did a clean up in the lanes of Upper Bakoven this morning, for Jenny Stephens coming for Pink Gin and Christmas cookies; and for my friends coming to celebrate my birthday, 4th Advent, and Christmas with me; for the beautiful sunny 27C day, the wind picking up but still allowing us to sit outside; for my Alex calling me for my birthday ❤️; for hundreds of birthday messages which I haven’t yet all read; for Brian Van Hansen taking fabulous pics, which I’ll post tomorrow; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 84 of Level 1, 13 December 2020.

Sunday 13 December 2020, Day 84 of Level 1, Day 263 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a busy weekend, now being able to catch my breath again, and grateful that the President’s Speech has been postponed to tomorrow; for a warm day at about 22C, with glorious sunshine; for a walk through Camps Bay this morning, surprised about the protection I received from managers of businesses across the road as well as our security company, when a drunk/tikked homeless woman threatened to hit me with a brick 😱; for having been invited by owner Judi Fourie to attend the opening of her wow Fideli’s Deli, next door to her Pilcrow & Cleaver on Parliament Street, formerly a branch of Kleinsky’s; becoming the new outlet’s first customer, buying an Argentinian mini cake to bring as a gift to my lunch hostess; for a lovely lunch out in Durbanville at the home of Lorraine Adam, whom I met in our Tourist Guiding class in January, meeting some of her friends; for another Camps Bay walk on my return home, shocked at the volume of litter; for a lovely online Hope @ Home concert from Berlin by Daniel Hope; for the launch of a beach clean initiative by okja, offering a free coffee for every bucket of litter picked up on Camps Bay Beach, to be launched tomorrow 👏; and for being happy and healthy but tired. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 42 of Level 3, 12 July 2020.

Sunday 12 July 2020, Day 42 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful sunny day, but a slight chill in the wind, the wind strength picking up this afternoon, bringing us another cold front for the next two days; for missing out on Loadshedding today, what luck; for having a Sunday Breakfast with Lorraine Adam, who did the Tourist Guiding course with me, the first time we have seen each other since Lockdown; for a most ginormous and generous Sunday Carvery lunch at Quentin at Oakhurst Barn (Photograph), with Soren and the lovely Melanie Davidow; for dancing to my playlist tonight to get to my Step goal; for having dropped down further in my Resting Heart Rate, now at 54 beats per minute; for another fabulous concert by Daniel Hope of Hope @ Home on Tour, half classic, half modern, an extended one hour one, streamed from Lübeck again; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

We had the Breakfast inside, due to the windchill, a first. A smaller and less extravagant breakfast compared to the larger ones I’ve hosted on the terrace in the past.

Boy what a table conversation we had at Quentin’s over lunch, not repeatable here. 😱😂. Lovely to see Andrew Cairns and his family there, who had seen my write up earlier this week after our dinner on Wednesday, and booked for Sunday lunch with his family. An amazing three-course lunch, excellent value at R295.

Restaurants have been dealt a double blow in President Ramaphosa’s Speech this evening:

The President’s Speech: Level 3 retained, Alcohol Sales ban and Curfew announced as of Monday 13 July 2020, a further blow for the Restaurant industry!

SA Corona Status 276 242 cases 4079 deaths 😷😢

FitBit 10000 steps 7 km 👣

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, and lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
