Stellenbosch explodes with new restaurants, and more to come!

 

I had not been to Stellenbosch since the beginning of Lockdown in March 2020. Last week I spent a day in the town, to walk through its centre, and updating my information of restaurants that have opened and closed in the town since my last visit.

 

I discovered multiple new coffee shops and informal eateries, and a growing number of wine bars. And the start of a challenge to Chef Bertus Basson’s dominance of the university town as far as fine-dining goes.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a cool day initially after rain overnight, becoming misty and then clearing up, becoming humid; for catching up on sleep, on writing blogposts for next week, and on walking outside, having been below my step quota in the past two days 😱; for trying out the new The Pottery which opened in Camps Bay this week, opposite the Pick n Pay and Woolies parking area, next to Dizzy’s; for bumping into two German tourists, on honeymoon and not very happy after their first week in Cape Town, she having been ill, and complaining about the overflowing litter bins and ‘rich’ Camps Bay not matching Ibiza Continue reading →

ëlgr. in Cape Town named 18th Best New Restaurant in the World by TimeOut !

 

Much like Cape Town and the Winelands seeing at least 70 new restaurants having opened in the past 15 months since the Corona Lockdown began, so too Restaurants are opening in other parts of the world.

TimeOut has selected a handful of restaurants from around the world, curating a list of 21 restaurants from as far afield as Mexico City, Madrid, Lisbon, Montreal, Sydney, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Cape Town. SA Restaurant trends 2019, less French, more indigenous, lighter, vegan, non-wine pairings!

 

 

I have only just paged through the Eat Out 2020 magazine, and was interested in the article on restaurants trends observed during 2019 whilst Eat Out Head Judge and Chef Margot Janse and her team of judges roamed the country to evaluate our country’s top restaurants for the 2019 Eat Out Awards.
