‘SA’s most experienced Restaurant Reviewer : accolade from IconicZA magazine!

In my ‘career’ as a writer I have been called many things by not so nice persons in the restaurant industry. It has been a wonderful experience to have new descriptors added to the collection describing me: ‘indomitable’, meaning impossible to subdue or defeat, and  ‘most experienced restaurant reviewer’, both accolades by the new IconicZA digital magazine in an article in its October issue.

Two Cape Town Restaurants ranked in World’s 50 Best Restaurants Top 100 List!

After having skipped the release of the World’s 50 Best Restaurant List in 2020, due to the Corona pandemic, the 2021 World’s 50 Best Restaurant List is back.

The closure of The Test Kitchen on Thursday means that South Africa may no longer have a presence on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List, only La Colombe and The Test Kitchen, both under the ownership of Chef Luke Dale Roberts, having received the prestigious accolade of having made this list in the past. The 2021 World’s 50 Best List will be announced on 5 October.

Oteque is number 100 on this eminent restaurant ranking list, and has a Michelin star, both achievements acquired within 18 months of the restaurant opening in Rio de Janeiro, its owner and Chef Alberto Landgraf having previously owned a restaurant in São Paulo.  I found it to be far better than Lasai restaurant, also in Rio de Janeiro, which is ranked 74th Best on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant, at which I had eaten two days prior.
