#grateful for another fabulous day, with a number of firsts; for seeing so many heart clouds and a stone, collecting the latter a passion I share with Heidi Klum Gala reported today; for getting my work done in good time this morning, allowing me to be out and about all day; for tea with Rose Klein and Hans-Werner Klein; for a tea treat at Tryn Restaurant at Steenberg, dropping off the Adhara olive oil prize to Chef Kerry Kilpin, one of our 2021 Top 10 Women Chefs; for an amazing exhilarating walk with Rose from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay and back, 11000 steps in total, walking Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#gratitude for a sunny day but only 17C, and a very chilly evening and a strong Southerly wind; for a busy day to catch up on all my admin, not having any meetings today; for walking to Pick n Pay Camps Bay to get an Atlantic Sun, to see the lovely article written by Shahied Joseph, about my litter cleaning in Camps Bay 🙏💙; for a late afternoon Bakoven walk; for my right hip ache of the last few days having gone; for meeting German walkers walking their cat on a lead, a ginger too, so I had to photograph the cat 🙀; and for being happy, healthy and free. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs of 2021 announced on Women’s Day!

 

Last week we announced that we were seeking nominations for the Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs, the prize of a bottle of ADHARA Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil going to each of our top chefs, kindly sponsored by Venishree Mayer, co-owner and olive oil producer of Fraaigelegen Farm in Tulbagh.

We are grateful for the nominations that we have received. We congratulate the Top 10 Women Chefs in the Cape.

We wish all our hard-working Women Chefs as well as our Blog readers a relaxing and happy Women’s Day.

Restaurants offering Food Delivery/Collection during 2021 Level 4 Lockdown: Cape Town and Winelands.

Cape Town and Winelands Restaurants have been quick to set up a Delivery and/or Collection Service, since President Ramaphosa announced the Level 4 Lockdown on Sunday,  closing down all restaurants for Sit-Down Service in the country.

Whilst surviving two restaurant closures in Lockdown last year, this restaurant Level 4 closure appears to have caught many by surprise. Many restaurateurs have become wiser through last year’s experience, and have calculated the break even point in terms of minimum income to be made. Combined with the rain all week to date and freezing cold, and the fear of the fast-spreading Delta Covid variant, many restaurants are making losses by being open for Take-Aways. Continue reading →
