Thursday 3 December 2020, Day 74 of Level 1, Day 253 of Lockdown 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for a special day of being cared for and spoilt by two lovely ladies, Jenny Stephens and Chef Judi Fourie, taking my KitKat heartache away a little 💙💙; for a busy short morning, preparing for my weekly client status meeting; for a clean-up walk with my team in Bakoven this morning; for a good Earl Grey tea and croissant at Origin Coffee Roasters in De Waterkant, Jenny entertaining me with her stories since we last saw each other; for my client status meeting going well, so happy to hear that they have been fully booked last night and tonight, and the weekend looks busy too; for popping in at the first Thursday Night Market at the Old Biscuit Mill; for a spontaneous treat dinner at Pilcrow & Cleaver, Chef Judi giving me the whole bottle of The Valley Pinot Noir to take home when I was happy to just have a glassful, and for comping the meal too, such amazing kindness 🙏; for meeting artist Benjamin Salvatore at his exhibition at Speakers’ Corner, across the road from Pilcrow & Cleaver, having been invited by Katie Friedman, and being offered a Cointreau & Tonic, very tasty and refreshing; for the good news that the Western Cape is not affected by the tighter Lockdown regulations announced by our President this evening; and for being healthy. 🙏💙
The launch of the first Old Biscuit Mill Thursday Night Market was a shambles, stands not all set up yet at 17h20, twenty minutes after the opening time, with very few stands, and all the clothing stands which are normally in the courtyard being in the food market! It was a complete waste of time. And the wind blew like crazy.
I met Chef Judi Fourie of Pilcrow & Cleaver during Lockdown, and have loved her weekly changing menu, probably buying more of her dishes than at any other restaurant in the past 8 months. In ten days’ time Chef Judi opens her new Fideli’s Deli next door to Pilcrow & Cleaver, so brave in these tough times. Tonight I had avocado-covered deep-fried sushi rice balls, and a Chocolate Mousse, paired with The Valley Pinot Noir. #Thankyou so much Judi. ❤️❤️❤️

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
