Tuesday 29 September 2020, Day 9 of Level 1, Day 187 of Lockdown. 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for a relaxed unstressed day, my Resting Heart Rate dropping even further; for a 17C sunny day on the slightly chilly side, especially when the South Easter picked up this afternoon; for writing an interesting story about the new Daily Maverick 168 newspaper; for seeing Henry again after he had five days off; for a littered walk through Camps Bay, lots to pick up; for fabulous service from the Pick n Pay Manager, to refund an overcharge on a cash payment, not having kept the slip and finding it via my Smartcard swipe ❤️; for a second walk to Camps Bay to have dinner with Vivian Warby at Tindlovu in Camps Bay, serving South African cuisine; for an amazing call just received (21h00) from the City of Cape Town Water Department to establish the exact location of a water leak on the Victoria Road pavement, which I reported to the office of Nicola Jowell earlier today, to fix it tonight, a huge wow 👏; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙
I reviewed the new Daily Maverick 168 newspaper, and found a lot to question. A very bizarre motivation is provided as to why they are extending from daily digital to weekly print. The funniest of all is that they boast about their journalistic excellence yet have made an embarrassing error regarding The Kiffness, giving David Scott the ‘Twit of the Week’ Award! One cannot correct a print publication, so the newspaper has to live with this embarrassing error for the rest of the week, itself becoming the Twit of the week! They did apologize to David on Instagram. 😱🥵
Tindlovu opened in Camps Bay in December, and had little time to establish itself before Lockdown. Chris Papayannes is now the GM of 11 Tindlovu restaurants around the country, currently based in Camps Bay. A lovely person, and a passionate restaurateur with front of house, sommelier, and chef skills. Vivian and I loved the quirky South African dish names, both of us being writers. We shared fried halloumi as a starter. Vivian had a meat craving, so ordered a fillet, while I chose hake. Our dessert was a fabulous milk tart with honeycomb and coffee ice cream, which we shared. #thankyou Viv for a meet treat twice in three days 💙
Chris told us that Starbucks is opening in Camps Bay. 😱
Today 51 years ago the earth shook in Ceres/Tulbagh/Wolseley. I felt in my hometown Wellington. 😱

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
