Saturday 26 December 2020, Day of Goodwill, Day 97 of Level 1, Day 276 of Lockdown. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a warm sunny day without a breath of wind, although we wish for these on the busy Camps Bay days; for my hardworking Cleaning Team of Imtiaz and Carmen, who experienced their busiest day of cleaning since staring about three weeks ago; for a Vit D snooze on the terrace; for very hard work in cleaning up litter this afternoon, until the very last minute at 18h30, when the Team finishes working on weekends, all of us exhausted, and putting in a good number of steps; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

The Cleaning Team came to my home this morning, to stock up on garbage bags, after having cleaned up in Bakoven. We walked to Clifton 4th Beach together, and I left them there to tackle the always littered Maiden’s Cove and Nature Reserve across the road. We met again this afternoon, and cleaned up vigorously for two hours, Imtiaz looking drained and burnt out, after being very hyped this morning, so a sandwich and an ice cold water stop at Tindlovu did wonders. The Council bin clearers let us down badly, only coming at about 18h00, the green bins overflowing with Litter everywhere by then. I push the litter down into the bins to give us more space in the bins. Imtiaz and Carmen must have done 14km today, and filled 50 garbage bags at least. We’ll sleep well tonight. 😴

Camps Bay was busy but calm today, with very visible police presence, 15 officers walking in groups, and Law Enforcement officers removing alcohol from picnickers on the beachfront lawns, our litter containing beer and spirits bottles and cans too.

Tonight I’ll watch the ‘Kapstadt’ episode of ‘Das Traumschiff’ on ZDF properly. I’ll write a story about the episode.

An interesting cloud of mist came off the sea late this afternoon, helping to clear the beaches and picnic areas, as the temperature dropped with it.

I was so sad to read of the passing of Allan Mullins, Mr Woolworths Wines curator for many years. #RIP Allan.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
