* The largest part of Camp Bay Drive, a major road connection between the city, Camps Bay, and Hout Bay, is to close for road widening and surface improvement for 5 months from 20 April, at a cost of R20 million. Between Rontree Avenue and Geneva Drive Camps Bay Drive will be widened by 1,4 meters, and sharp curves will be softened. It will be the first upgrade of Camps Bay Drive in 30 years.
* Grammy Award winner Pharrell Williams (singer of ‘Happy’) is working with Woolworths as its Style Director on a number of sustainability projects. He is due to visit our country in September, but only Woolworths Rewards card holders will be able to obtain a ticket to his concert. A project called ‘Harmonising Humanity’ works with those that care where their products come from, and who support children to get the best opportunity at good education. The project includes a sustainable T-shirt design competition, raising R100 million for education, choosing a school singing group to perform live with Pharrell Williams, and seeing the once-off performance by Pharrell.
* Former Springbok rugby player Chester Williams has been appointed as a SA Tourism ambassador at Indaba 2015. At the travel expo in Durban Williams will walk the floor with Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom on 9 May, Williams understanding team work from his favourite sport. He is also good at interacting with local and international visitors.
* The Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) has been fined R2 million by the Competition Tribunal for its price collusion with Bombela Concession Company regarding rental car parking fees at OR Thambo International. The airports company is planning to run a competition law awareness campaign amongst it staff, ‘to ensure that the employees act responsibly and with integrity’.
* Stellenbosch is hosting a Craft Beer Festival in the Klein Libertas Theatre on Saturday 18 April, at an entrance fee of R70. (received via e-mail from Community Mailers).
