Restaurant Review: Mexicola Locale colourful food and atmosphere in Hout Bay!

 

On Tuesday evening my friend Gary Peterson and I popped in at Mexicola Locale in Hout Bay, a Mexican Eatery, after an event we attended in the suburb.  We had planned to eat at the nearby Delish, but it was closed.

Knowing that the restaurant belongs to Chef Cheyne Morrisby, it was worth a try, and the little blue cottage attracted interest from outside.

The service was very good, and good wines offered, but the Tacos disappointed. I loved the Churro waffle, but found it to be pricey. Continue reading →

Matt’s Homespun opens second restaurant, at The Andros Boutique Hotel in Claremont

 

I have the highest regard for Chef Matt Schreuder of Homespun in Blouberg, for the creativity of his world class Secret Supper Club in particular, and his Tasting Menus which are of a Top 10 Restaurant standard.

Ahead of the official opening on Friday 18 June, I was invited to a ‘friends and family’ preview of Chef Matt’s new Homespun at The Andros 5 star Boutique Hotel in Claremont on Saturday evening. It was my first visit to the Hotel.  The Hotel has an old-world charm and dates back to 1908. It was designed by renowned Sir Herbert Baker.  It has 15 rooms. Parking is available on the propperty. Sweet Service Award goes to Cape Town firefighters; Sour Service Award goes to Coco Safar

 

The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town and volunteer firefighters for their dedication and hard work in combatting and finally extinguishing the devastating fire at Rhodes Memorial, UCT, and Mostert’s Mill from Sunday – Tuesday this week. The helicopter water bombers must be commended too, as is every person who assisted in accommodating and feeding UCT residence students, for donating animal food, and for other acts of kindness.
