Restaurants jubilant as alcohol sales permitted and closing time extended; will closed restaurants reopen? February 2021 Cape Town/Winelands Restaurant/Opening List.

Restaurants and their customers celebrated the revised Lockdown regulations yesterday, permitting the sale of alcohol and the closing time moved to 22h00. It will be interesting to see which of the 20 restaurants which announced their closure in the past month, will reopen, six having reopened since yesterday.

Despite the Lockdown regulations affecting restaurants so badly in the past nine months, a total of 68 new restaurants have opened in Cape Town and the Winelands during Lockdown. Top chefs are opening new restaurants, including Chefs Peter Tempelhoff, Cheyne Morrisby, and Liam Tomlin. Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 7 of Adjusted Level 3, 4 January 2020

Monday 4 January 2020, Day 7 of Adjusted Level 3, Day 285 of Lockdown. đŸ˜·

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful 29C day, the wind picking up late this afternoon; for the Fire Department extinguishing a third fire in four days near the Kramat outside Bakoven; for a busy working morning; for an attempt at sleeping this afternoon; for a walk to Bakoven, which had little litter, and to Camps Bay, which had signs of persons eating and drinking on the lawns, just leaving their empties when finished đŸ˜±; for fabulous service from Pick n Pay Manager Odwa, inviting me to a special faster counter so that I could pay my City of Cape Town account; for my first 1000 Discovery Miles of 2021…. 49000 to go; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Franschhoek Restaurants during Lockdown: which are open, closed, and opening soon!

Last week I spent two days in Franschhoek for a catch-up visit, after not having been to this lovely village known for its eateries and good wines in eight months. From having heard that the village was so quiet, and that many restaurants had closed down, I was pleasantly surprised to find the village bursting with excitement about new restaurants about to open in October, and later this year. I could not resist eating at Orangerie at Le Lude, what to me is one of Franschhoek’s best restaurants. Continue reading →

Will Cape Town and Winelands restaurants survive until winter?

The only new restaurants which opened last month are Epice in Franschhoek, headed by Chef CharnĂ© Sampson, belonging to The La Colombe Group, and located in the former Marigold restaurant; as well as Tindlovu in Camps Bay. This reflects the state of the economy, 2019 being one of the worst years for the restaurant industry.

Chef Peter Tempelhoff announced the opening of a new ‘funky’ restaurant in Cape Town on Kfm over a month ago, but no further details of its name, location, or opening date are known.
