UK removes South Africa from its Red List, with 46 other countries, opens the door to SA Tourism

The best news in 18 months of the Corona Lockdown broke today, with the UK announcing that it will remove South Africa and 46 other countries from its Red List as of Monday 11 October. Only seven countries will remain on the UK Red List on Monday: Columbia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

Vaccinated Visitors may enter the UK on the same conditions as those of UK residents, but may not have travelled in a Red List country in the ten days before arriving in the UK.  South Africa has been on the Red List since December 2020.

A further positive step is that South Africans’ proof of vaccination will be accepted by the UK.   South African travellers will have to show the results of a Covid Test. No hotel quarantine will be required from Monday onwards, a costly affair for travellers to the UK, having to stay in  prescribed quarantine hotels at a cost of close to R50000.

Restaurant KleinJAN and Wolfgat on 2021 Conde Naste Traveller World’s Most Beautiful Restaurant List!

Now Restaurant Klein JAN has received a new accolade, not for its cooking but for its beauty, being one of two South African restaurants making the 2021 Conde Nast Traveller Most Beautiful Restaurants in the World List, out of 39 restaurants in total, and accompanied by Wolfgat in Paternoster. Many flights operating currently are from other African countries.

Fewer than half of the airlines which flew to South Africa prior to the start of our Lockdown are operating in our country currently, the article states.  Continue reading →

I was challenged to write a speculation of what it would be like to eat at a Restaurant during Lockdown ‘Advanced’ Level 3 for a Sit-Down meal from 1 July, a date predicted for the reopening of South African restaurants.

On Wednesday 17 June President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Restaurants are to reopen for sit-down dining, having only been allowed to sell Food and Alcohol on a Delivery or Collection basis during Levels 4 and 3 to date. Continue reading →
