Wednesday 20 May 2020, Day 20 of Level 4, after 35 days of Level 5. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for such a lucky day all round, it being the 20th after all ; for the most exceptional weather, at 29 C, summer making a repeat visit before we face winter from tomorrow onwards; for Exercise Time shared with many others today, I luckily taking a different route, up Geneva Drive; for meeting Mahmud Fredericks along the way back home, and walking and chatting up to my apartment; for my apartment terrace furniture rearrangement, after two years, giving me space to put a small round table right up against my plants, on a raised section, sitting in the beautiful sun; for another good Restaurant Food Delivery Facebook Group day, with over 100 new members; for a wonderful accolade from the Camps Bay Community Action Network; for the fabulous news that I have been accepted as the new Foster and future Adoption mom of Minsky by DARG, with the delivery likely to be tomorrow ❤️❤️❤️; for the offer from Mykonos Taverna in Sea Point to deliver a Mezze platter of Greek treats for me to try, to which I invited my Hong Kong neighbour Kyle, my first dinner (still at 20C) by candlelight on the terrace with a dining partner in 7 weeks; for a walk to the shops to buy a litter tray and cat litter, with fabulous service from Absolute Pets and Pick n Pay, a heavy weight to carry back home; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙

I took my rake on the walk with me in Exercise Time this morning, so that I could move all the dog poo off the pavement of the bottom part of Geneva Drive. Here I bumped into Dave and Jennifer, former Camps Bay guest house ‘colleagues’, who told me about a death of a Homeless person higher up on Geneva Drive this morning. It was so warm this morning that I wore a sleeveless top and shorts, with no jersey. I briefly met the new acting Manager Oko at Pick n Pay, who took over the store from today, after it was closed yesterday when a staff member tested Covid positive, so a number of staff plus the managers had to go into quarantine. It surprises me that there is no notification by the supermarkets, and no customer contact-tracing, seeing that we are in and out of the shops. 🥵

My Blogpost today was about the negativity toward Food Delivery Driving Partners such as Uber Eats and Mr D, not just locally but also internationally. On my Facebook Group we are now marking the Restaurants which do Self-Delivery, definitely the preferred ordering system amongst our members. A representative of Bolt, ex Taxify and also offering the delivery service but at a much lower rate, contacted me.

Corona Virus Lockdown: Restaurant deliveries by third party partners like Uber Eats getting the cold shoulder locally and internationally!

An interesting article in Business Insider reflected the various degree of infection risk of everyday activities: https://www.businessinsider.co.za/riskiest-to-least-risky-activities-during-coronavirus-pandemic-ranked-2020-5

The call I was waiting for all morning eventually came, to give me the go-ahead to eventually adopt Minsky. Concern was expressed about the pool and whether the pool cover would safeguard the new cat from falling into the water. We got past that hurdle, and then all was confirmed. I have to sign some paperwork to make the fostering legal, and then again for the adoption, after Lockdown is lifted. 🐱😊❤️

KitKat aka Charlie was in and out today, I having to learn to let go when he goes off wandering. 🐱❤️

I had to get myself organized for Minsky’s arrival, and bought cat litter and a tray. The sales assistant at Absolute Pets in Camps Bay is lovely, a good listener, and offering advice. 🐱❤️ Minsky will have to be settled in for three weeks, joining me in Lockdown.

The post written by Jo Pentz of Camps Bay CAN was the following❤️❤️❤️, edited:

Good morning Chris
It’s clear from your Face Book blog and your wonderful ‘Deliveries’ page that you do far more than write and pick up litter!
You have inspired me to post a discussion on our CAN Whattsapp group to support local restaurants, and I hope this brings you lots more followers.
Here is the post. If you are interested in posting it on your page please include a mention of our Community Action Network and the link to our group. We are about 100 strong and doing incredible work supporting less fortunate communities and would like to focus on strengthening and supporting our own community as well.
I will also post it on other community FB pages.
Thank you and enjoy another gorgeous day!

Lockdown has been particularly tough for restaurants and their staff who’s margins are low at the best of times. So we thought we’d start a discussion promoting some of our local restaurants offering deliveries. We’ve also included a few further afield, but still within our delivery zone, who are making a contribution to various causes.
Please feel free to add to this list in comments.
– Local Camps Bay resident Chris Von Ulmenstein has a Facebook Page called Lockdown Food Delivery Restaurants, which will bring you up to date with all our local restaurants that are open for deliveries, as well as those further afield. Too many to mention here, but we’ll worth joining her page for.
– Chef Ryan Cole of Salsify at The Roundhouse, is offering his award winning cuisine at affordable prices as far as fine dining goes. Well worth contacting him for a special treat. Whattsapp 0827615270’.

The rest of the article is on my Facebook Page.

The Mykonos Taverna driver was half an hour early, so we started dinner to a beautiful sunset, lighting the candles afterwards. Kyle brought a bottle of Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc along, and we shared the Mezze dishes, each prepared for two persons. Kyle has lived in SA, the UK, America, New Zealand and in Hong Kong, in his short 25 years. An interesting and entertaining dinner and chat. He returns home next week. 💙

Due to my socializing I did far less dancing today. 💃👣 But a good Cardio rate still earned me 300 Discovery points. 👣

SA Corona Virus Status: 18003 cases 339 deaths 😷😥

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this week to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, and lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
