Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a hot wind-free 28C day, Camps Bay jam-packed; for the disaster of our Ebbtide garage door no longer opening easily overcome by the wonderful Gary, who played Uber and fetched me in Camps Bay to get to our lunch date; for a successful Community CAMPS BAY CLEAN, spoilt as always by Emma of The 41 bringing tea to my table on the lawn, 14 litter cleaning volunteers helping, the McWilliams brothers winning the Burger prize for most litter collected and receiving gift vouchers from Sportsman’s Warehouse for their hard work in cleaning Camps Bay this year; for a fabulous lunch of authentic Greek food, mainly Bakery related, starting with bread rings (Koulouri), then sharing two salads and spiral phyllo pastry Spanakopita, Tiropita, and Kotopita, followed by a mix of Greek sweet treats and biscuits, being allowed to take home what we didn’t finish, a third generation Greek family opening this YiaYia’s Table Take Away and Sit Down Bakery/Restaurant in Mowbray six months ago, in honour of their grandmother, in the space in which their grandparents used to own a butchery and tea room #Efaristo #genuinegreek ; for a collection of an order from Hartlief; for Cedric and Natasha from I know a Guy, who helped with our litter clean up, coming to look at the garage door, identifying that the motor is kaputt!, needing attention on Monday; for a Bakoven walk; for it cooling down now; and for being happy, healthy and free. 💙❤️

I’m using this from Gary’s post about the history of YiaYia:

‘Chris got an invitation to lunch at Yiayia’s Table and she in turn invited me to join her there this afternoon. It’s a wonderful authentic Greek bakery in Mowbray, run by Dimitri Parolis and his beautiful family. Yiayia’s Table was founded as a homage to Elli Parolis, Dimitri’s grandmother and the matriarch of a family that has been a part of the Mowbray community for 3 generations. Elli was well known for her Greek hospitality and delicious home-made food. The bakery has been created in the same building where grandma Elli and her husband Jimmy ran a butchery and tea room for many years. The Parolis family kept plying us with all sorts of wonderful Greek delicacies, too numerous to mention and far too much to consume there and then, so we were were sent home with a generous packet full of goodies.’

Doormac did a fantastic job in fixing our garage door spring about a month ago, helping me get my car out and fixing the door on the same day. When I called them for help this morning owner Tom told me in no uncertain terms and unsympathetically that they are on holiday until 10 January, and cannot assist nor can he recommend anyone else! I was told to Google a Garage Door repairer. 😡

I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
