On the almost eve of the first anniversary of the Corona Lockdown in our country, a big shout out must go to Highbury Media, owners of the online publication Cape Town Etc, which is investing R1 million in the Cape Town Restaurant industry, one of the hardest hit sectors of our economy by the Covid-19 Lockdown. The company is providing marketing support to any restaurants requesting such, by writing and posting articles about restaurants and their special features.

The publishing company announced a month ago that it was allocating R 1 million in advertising spend  ‘to benefit and showcase restaurants in Cape Town, as well as content creation for those restaurants severely affected because of lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic’. Highbury Media CEO Kevin Ferguson motivated his company’s campaign on the basis of ‘how the pandemic has decimated so many restaurants and how so many people in the industry have suffered’.  He added: ‘We want to help give back and contribute to people living and earning again.

At every Level of the Lockdown since 27 March last year, the restaurant industry was hardest hit, not being allowed to operate at all in Level 5, then only allowed to do Restaurant Deliveries to clients’ homes, then being allowed to sell alcohol from their restaurants and for customers to collect meals, until diners could return to Restaurants for Sit-Down Service from about September 2020. In late December 2020 alcohol sales in restaurants were banned and the Curfew brought forward to 21h00, with severe consequences for the industry, which has seen up to close to 100 restaurants close down in Cape Town and the Winelands in the past year.

New Level 1 Curfew starting time a bonus for Cape Town & Winelands Restaurants: March 2021.

Since February this year Restaurant restrictions were eased as the country returned to Lockdown Level 3, and then to Level 1 from 1 March.

My Communication clients Utopia Cape Town and Anatoli Mediterranean Restaurant have both been fortunate to benefit from the generosity of Highbury Media’s restaurant marketing campaign :

Utopia invites you for a Mediterranean feast

A taste of authenticity at Anatoli

A big thank you to Highbury Media and its Cape Town Etc on behalf of not only Utopia Cape Town and Anatoli Mediterranean Restaurant, but on behalf of the SA Restaurant industry too, for its generous support!
