Thursday 25 March 2021, Day 25 of Level 1, Day 364 of Lockdown 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for another beautiful summer day, again close to 30 C in the city; for surviving the day on 3,5 hours of sleep; for getting my work done in time this morning; for an entertaining hour with Garth Angus of Wagyu Direct, giving him a crash course in Social Media; for collecting my poppyseed rolls at Dinkel; for a good Status meeting at Utopia; for the luck of getting great coverage in Cape Town Etc for Anatoli; for a shopping spree at the Waterfront, wishing I hadn’t; for a less energetic stroll to the Camps Bay Pick n Pay, getting some groceries I had intended to get in the Waterfront; and for being healthy but tired. 🙏💙
My Blogpost today was about the fabulous gesture by Highbury Media, publishers of Cape Town Etc, to support the Cape Town restaurant industry via a R1 million fund, and for being fortunate that both Anatoli Turkish Restaurant and Utopia Cape Town have been featured. 👏👏👏
Once again we have the noisiest tenants renting the apartment above me, stomping up the staircase alongside my apartment, banging their front door closed, for laughing, talking and singing on the way up. Henry spoke to them twice, but the South African woman just ignored him while her Swiss partner is on the phone each time he tried to request their respect in not causing a disturbance. They have disconnected the intercom, so I had no choice but to leave a note on their door, requesting theat they stop their daily noise disturbance. When they saw the note this morning, they stormed down the staircase, screamed and shouted outside my door, and banged obsessively on my door. I was still asleep when this racket started, but woke up quickly, having to request Henry to come and protect me! 😡😡😡. So 3 1/2 hours sleep only. The final ‘cherry’ was the typical rudeness and abusiveness of the French owner of the apartment, Magali Seguillon, living in Paris.
Lack of sleep and Full Moon stress picking up made me super annoyed at Pick n Pay in the Waterfront, with only two tellers in the Express section, and their card machine not working, and there being no till bell’s to request help. I got so angry that I took my card and left all my shopping at the till 😡😡😡
The contrast with buying some Easter treats at Tomes could not have been greater, the assistant recognizing me from their Gardens’ branch, knowing what I had come to shop for, the Gardens branch being out of stock last week. She made me feel much better with good service, especially when she agreed about how bad the Pick n Pay service is 💙. I collected post, there barely being any.
The drive to the city was extremely busy with traffic, the most I’ve experienced since Lockdown started a year ago. The Waterfront and Sea Point were less busy. I’ve been told that Joburgers will flood Cape Town from this weekend onwards, so I did the shopping I needed to prevent me from having to go near any shops next week.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December, extended to 15 February on 11 January, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
