Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a smooth flowing day, despite it being an upside down one, feeling like a Friday already; for my Discovery medical package change made by Maki Chase today; for meeting one of my Camps Bay Ratepayers Association colleagues at the Promenade, buying an HTH floater at Pick n Pay, and a bib at Camps Bay Hardware (organised via owner Jared Stein on holiday in Mauritius) for my new Gift cleaning helper, starting on Saturday; for spoiling myself with a light breakfast (not the best scrambled egg I’ve had) at The Pottery, but Manager Shaun being very helpful, bringing me a charger for my phone, showing me how they glaze Pottery and fire it in their kiln, for showing me the jewelry Continue reading →

#Grateful for a beautiful sunny day, with a hint of summer, at 20C; for having a second sleep this morning, with my Minsky đŸ± lying next to me; for a calm and peaceful day in all respects; for surviving a wine estate vehicle racing through the newly painted pedestrian crossing in Camps Bay; for surviving being in Sea Point; for meeting the lovely Mark Cromhout, whose photographs I so admire, and always chuffed when he likes one of mine on Instagram, thinking he is a professional photographer (@cromhout_views); for a lovely sunset; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Vicky Cristina’s adds passion to Camps Bay!

imageVicky Cristina’s is the name of a movie made by Woody Allen. Now a Spanish style restaurant with the name of the movie has opened in Camps Bay. Vicky Cristina’s tapas bar y restaurante españo is inexpensive, has an upmarket interior, and good service.

Many Mediterranean-style restaurants open in Cape Town!

La Parada Kitchen with Bull head Whale Cottage PortfolioDespite one of  the worst winters ever experienced by the Cape hospitality industry, most restaurants appear to have survived it. A surprise trend is the number of Mediterranean style restaurants opening, with true Spanish and Italian owners and/or staff. This list of restaurant openings and closings is updated continuously, as we receive new information:

Restaurant Openings

*   The Harbour House group has opened La Parada Spanish Tapas restaurant on Bree Street, with a subterranean bar/nightclub (above).

*      Café Puerto Cabo has opened on Loop Street, a Spanish eatery and men’s clothing shop.

*    The House of Machines has opened on Shortmarket Street, building motorcycles, offering good Evil Twin coffee, and serving very healthy food.

*   Orphanage Cocktail Emporium is opening Orphanage Club upstairs, with 1920’s style music by live performers, later this year.

*   Equus restaurant on the Cavalli stud and wine farm on the R44 has opened. Continue reading →
