Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 30 of Level 1, 30 March 2021.

Tuesday 30 March 2021, Day 28 of Level 1 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a well organized smooth-flowing day, being away from home from 7h30 – 17h30, taking Earl Grey to be sterilized at the vet in Diepriver; for getting my day’s writing done at Knead at the Constantia Enporium, spoilt by Ollie with pots of tea and a hot cross bun, their Wifi working perfectly; for a fabulous shop at Checkers at the mall, with lovely efficient and friendly cashiers, compared to Sea Point, and good offers and discounts 😱; for an eating drive to Muizenberg, all three my visits disappointing; for a lovely tea and apple tart treat at the home of Rose Klein and Werner, also in Diepriver, from where I fetched Earl Grey, looking good and not having any wounds or bandages, happy to see each other again 😻; for a very quick walk to Camps Bay and back, such good cardio that I earned 300 Discovery points; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

New Level 1 Curfew starting time a bonus for Cape Town & Winelands Restaurants: March 2021.

The revised Level 3 regulations introduced at the beginning of February, permitting the sale of alcohol and the closing time moved to 22h00, has been a boost for the restaurant industry, experiencing a good past month. The new restaurant closing time of 23h00 since yesterday is certain to be a further boost for a very hard-hit restaurant industry.

Despite the Lockdown regulations affecting restaurants so badly in the past 11 months, a total of 68 new restaurants have opened in Cape Town and the Winelands during Lockdown. Top chefs have opened new restaurants, including Chefs Peter Tempelhoff, Cheyne Morrisby, and Liam Tomlin. Chef Cheyne’s HIMITSU at the Camps Bay Retreat is the newest restaurant to have opened. Cape Town’s oldest pub, the Perseverance Tavern, has reopened with new owners.

The latest permanent Lockdown Restaurant Closure list stands at 97 Restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands. Sadly one of the greatest casualties of Covid and the Lockdown is the closure of The Restaurant at Waterkloof, as are the closures of Balducci’s and Belthazar in the Waterfront and La Tête on Bree Street.  Clarke’s, The Shortmarket Club, Koffi Terapi, Ocean Blue, and Dahlia on Regent announced their permanent closure earlier in Lockdown, but have since reopened. Fork in Franschhoek is the latest closure.

The Test Kitchen, and The Food Barn have changed their offerings and their restaurant names in reaction to the Covid Lockdown. They have recently been joined by Chefs Warehouse and Canteen on Bree Street, now called Chefs Warehouse Winebar & Pinchos.

The Test Kitchen and The Foodbarn Restaurants transformed to cope with aftermath of Covid Lockdown!

Franschhoek saw a number of Lockdown Restaurant Closures, but has five new restaurant openings, some restaurants have relocated, and some have changed their offering. See note about the closure of Fork above.

Restaurant Review: Villa 47 offers a fabulous feast, excellent Lockdown Winter Special!

When Villa 47 first opened in 2016, I could not stay away, loving its Breakfasts on Saturdays, its dry cappuccinos accompanied by a sweet treat of Tiramisu usually, or a special lunch or dinner treat with friends.  But then I started watching my weight, and to travel to town less often, and two years flew by in last having eaten there. Having seen their Winter Special menu and some photographs, and wanting to celebrate a special achievement in town, Villa 47 was the perfect restaurant to do so. Continue reading →

A salute and toast to 2016: the best year ever!

imageI have rarely written about personal matters on my Blog. I am also long past formulating New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of a year. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine that the universe would present me with a year of years in 2016, to top any I have ever experienced!  Continue reading →
