#Grateful for a late sleep-in, after getting to sleep at 2h00 this morning, having to Instagram last nightâs Homespun dinner; for a more peaceful day at the apartment block, despite some drilling and hammering to repair our electric fence; for a day of interviews about restaurants; for a long walk to Clifton, appropriately rewarded by Discovery, with 200 points, bumping into my nephew Nick Solomon and his fiancĂ© Lauren on the way; for a lovely warm 23 C day; for finding Minsky in a downstairs room, locked in by mistake, an hour of panic when I couldnât find her đ»; and for being happy and healthy đđ. I first heard about âDark Kitchensâ when I met Ian Halfon, CEO of Slick Restaurant Group, last week, his company having opened Cape Townâs newest Dark Kitchen on New Church Street in the City centre. Also known as âvirtual kitchensâ, âghost kitchensâ, or âcloud kitchensâ, Dark Kitchens are independent operations creating food for a multitude of brands, such as the Slick Restaurant Group is doing, having opened its operation with five restaurant brands initially, and more planned, all food prepared from one Central kitchen, with obvious cost benefits. Food is ordered online, for delivery to the customer.Â
