Thank you 2020 for everything that you have taught me, my Top 20 of 2020!

 

I was very excited about the year 2020, having the 20th as a birthdate, and it being my lucky number. Despite the tragedy of the Corona Virus pandemic and the inconvenience of the Lockdown regulations at times, 2020 turned out to be one of my best ever, learning from it and growing through it.

Corona Virus 🙏

#Grateful for a most lucky day, my horoscope for today coming true, in that I signed up my first Communications client today, the beginning of a new journey 🙏; for an action-packed day, with perfect timing of all my stops; for bumping into George Sax at Utopia restaurant; for receiving a naughty but nice very comfortable mask when I donated blood todayđŸ©ž; for receiving my Tourist Guiding badge from the Western Cape Dept of Economic Affairs and Tourism, five months after submitting my paperwork for it đŸ˜±; for meeting dear friend Jenny Stephens at the new Old Town Italy in the Waterfront, in the former Kauai space, a huge disappointment for anyone who knows its sister store in Umhlanga; for being able to buy a 2021 diary at CNA (no other customers in the store), for getting my Discovery vouchers cashed in at the Waterfront branch when they did not work at the Pick n Pay in Camps Bay; for collecting my post; for finding an affordable German brand potato peeler at Yuppie Chef at the V&A; for being invited to a trial dinner at the relaunched Fat Harry’s in Kenilworth, now co-owned by my friend Stuart Bailey – what a transformation; for Henry being back at work after exam leave; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Western Cape Tourist Guiding registration goes online, will it speed up the process?

 

Having been through a two-month process of obtaining my Tourist Guiding badge, using the Western Cape Department of Economic Affairs and Tourism manual procedure to do so by submitting numerous pages via email, it was interesting to read that the Province is now offering an online Tourist Guide registration and renewal procedure.

It appears that the issuing of tourist registration cards (mine took two months) and tourist badges (still not received after three and a half months) may delay the online registration process, in that a number of departmental processes and procedures may still hold up the registration process, and may not make the Tourist Guide registration process any faster. Trying to register within the Covid Lockdown has added to the delay in the registration process.  I had to request Western Cape Premier Alan Winde for support, with a follow up, and have been impressed with the interaction with Ilse van Schalkwyk, the Chief Director of Economic Sector Support.

Restaurant Review: Villa 47 offers a fabulous feast, excellent Lockdown Winter Special!

 

When Villa 47 first opened in 2016, I could not stay away, loving its Breakfasts on Saturdays, its dry cappuccinos accompanied by a sweet treat of Tiramisu usually, or a special lunch or dinner treat with friends.  But then I started watching my weight, and to travel to town less often, and two years flew by in last having eaten there. Having seen their Winter Special menu and some photographs, and wanting to celebrate a special achievement in town, Villa 47 was the perfect restaurant to do so. Continue reading →
