Meet Chef Judi Fourie of Pilcrow & Cleaver and Fideli’s: 2021 Top 10 Woman Chef!

Chef Judi Fourie received recognition as one of the Cape’s Top Women Restaurateurs last year. This year she has been selected as a 2021 Top 10 Woman Chef, owning both Pilcrow & Cleaver as well as Fideli’s on Parliament Street in the Cape Town city centre, as well as three Judith Fresh Cafés. She received a bottle of Adhara Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil as her prize.
Chef Judi fearlessly opened Fideli’s nine months ago, and offered a weekly menu for Pilcrow & Cleaver which one could collect or have delivered. It was the restaurant  I supported the most during Lockdown, collecting a freshly-made order combined with a friendly chat with Chef Judi, and a shop at Fdeli’s. She is an innovative marketer, most recently handing out Fideli’s vouchers as a thank you to persons who have been vaccinated. She is a trailblazer for SASSI, supporting sustainable fishing.

I met Venishree Mayer of Fraaigelegen Farm in Tulbagh with her husband Jürgen for the first time last Saturday, but have connected with her since I started the Lockdown Food Delivery and Collection Restaurant Facebook Group in May, being a very generous sponsor of her beautiful chic olive oil bottles as prizes, as well as in recognition of the Cape’s top women restaurateurs for Women’s Day. Venishree and Jürgen shared their story over lunch about moving from Germany to Tulbagh five years ago, and in creating their award-winning ADHARA premium extra virgin olive oil. Continue reading →

Saturday 22 August 2020, Day 5 of Level 2, Day 149 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a summer day today, even warmer than yesterday, at 22 C, one seeing it everywhere: the Hop On Hop Off bus driving through Camps Bay, well filled, the beaches being popular, with beach volleyball and umbrellas to be seen, hordes of picnickers, and a traffic jam snaking through Camps Bay; for the exciting first-time meeting with Venishree and Jürgen Mayer Family, coming to me for lunch all the way from their Fraaigelegen Farm in Tulbagh, where they produce their award-winning ADHARA extra virgin olive oil, the name of a Star ⭐️, one of few seen in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, symbolizing their German and South African roots; for the generous delivery of more ADHARA olive oil, to hand out to our women restaurateurs; for a walk through Camps Bay this morning, and Bakoven this afternoon; for speaking to my Alex this morning, sounding happy and doing very well work-wise; for dancing to the Kfm Blok Party this evening; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
