Wednesday 14 October 2020, Day 24 of Level 1, Day 202 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for our warmest day to date, at 24C; for a relaxed entertaining day of socializing, tea drinking, and eating; for being able to work out how to post on Instagram, it having been changed today without any notification to users 😱; for a 90 minute goosebump meeting over tea and Zabaglione at Villa 47 with Chef Matt Schreuder of Homespun, what a creative food magician he is; for meeting school mates Elaine Wegelin and Jenny Stephens at Utopia (yes, I love this place, for its interior decor, its food, the views, and being far from the maddening crowd); for two walks through Camps Bay today, not as littered as usual; for two plays on the Discovery Gameboard; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

I didn’t write a Blogpost today, being a day ahead in posting for this week. It allowed me to take a walk this morning.

I parked in De Waterkant, and walked to Villa 47, to meet Chef Matt of Homespun. I gave him a bottle of ADHARA extra virgin olive oil, in recognition of his amazing food/beverage/music magic theatre at his restaurant. I was so happy to hear that they are almost fully booked until the end of the year, the Secret Supper Club being a huge hit. It gave me goosebumps to hear him enthuse about his staff, how innovatively he appoints them, how his dish ideas come to him, and how long his staff have been working for him, all enthused by what he creates. A big star in the making ⭐️ Venishree Mayer

We shared a Zabaglione, soooo delicious, ordering tea too.

Utopia very kindly allowed me to meet Elaine and Jenny for tea before they open for dinner at 17h00. I had time to meet with Chef Pavel before they arrived, giving him extra feedback about my lunch on Saturday and dinner last night. He was very complimentary about my honesty – not many chefs like hearing what happens in their restaurants while they are in the kitchen. 😊

I was surprised to hear that The Shortmarket Club is reopening, having closed permanently at the beginning of Lockdown. 😱 Oku opened in Franschhoek today, a venture between Chefs Darren Badenhorst and Ryan Shell.

Elaine met with Jenny and I to plan a Wellington Wine Walk in November. Given how much we laughed this afternoon, it will be a hoot, a Camino on Wine…. 😂🍷

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
