Thursday 24 June 2021, Day 9 of Level 3😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for an amazing day, how lucky l am; for a beautiful sunny day, warm in the sun but chilly in the shade, at 17C, ahead of a crazy storm day expected tomorrow; for getting all my writing finished in time, to fit in a Houghton Drive/Steps walk; for fetching poppyseed baguettes at Paris Cape Town just after 2 pm, their closing time too early for me, but they were still open, and owner Laurent was generous in gifting these to me as a thank you for my blogpost about his bakery which I posted yesterday; for a lovely status meeting at Utopia, which turned into a wine tasting when the Siris Vintner reps popped in, and into food tasting and photography of the new Utopia Winter Tasting dishes…. oh yum; for an early dinner date at Zest Restaurant at the newkings boutique hotel with Gary Peterson and Brian Van Hansen, thoroughly spoilt by owner and operator Chef Pavel, spending four hours there, and Brian taking amazing photographs 🙏💙; for getting home to yet another music party in our block, with a surprise outcome 😱🥃; and for being happy, healthy and free.

My Blogpost today was about what one should and shouldn’t do once one is vaccinated.

What should one do and not do once vaccinated!

Chef Pavel was on the floor at Zest Restaurant, usually hidden in the kitchen, a perfectionist in what he does. He took our order, and brought the dishes to our table. He has an amazing sense of humour, and good interaction with diners, a showman. I showed Gary and Brian the hotel reception and Gaia gift shop, the restaurant, and the event room. We sat on the terrace and photographed the sunset step by step. Gary and I shared Lüderitz oysters and flame-grilled prawns while Brian had the roast sweet potato dish which I tried yesterday. We all chose steak as a main course, mine being a small one, Brian having the large plate one, and Gary opting for the rib eye steak. We shared a chocolate mousse and lemon parfait dessert, all excellent. But it was the steaks prepared on the wood-fired grill that received the highest praise. Fantastic service from Chef Pavel and waitress Josie. And cute manbun Barman Josh was on duty. 🙏😱. I can’t wait to see Brian’s pics.

As the Restaurant ambassador in addition to the marketing person it was gratifying to see the wonderful support we received tonight, including a table of four Camps Bay Supper Club supporters (thank you Janine Phillips and friends), and two Sea Pointers Michelle and Ivana sitting next to us, Michelle having dined at Zest at lunch and dinner today, loving it so much.

As I got into my apartment, I heard the boom boom of yet another loud music blast from the party apartment of Sacha Jack. After weeks of the same problem, I went downstairs to ring the intercom, but their music was too loud for them to hear it. So I marched upstairs, and banged on their door. Three persons came to the door, petrified of my loud knocking. They opened the door immediately, apologized, hugged me hello, and invited me for a drink. I saw my favorite Jameson so had one of those. Columbian Dad Juan is an orthopedic surgeon from Joburg, here for a legal case, celebrating his birthday today, having brought his son Sebastian and a friend. What a lovely evening it turned out to be. I lent Juan a three/two point plug for the charger for his phone. I’ve been invited to the next ‘jol’ with them tomorrow evening 😱🥃😱. A very different way to deal with a noise disturbance.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, moved back to Adjusted Level 2 on 31 May, and moved back to level 3 on 16 June, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
