Thursday 7 January 2021, Day 10 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 288 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful 27C day, with a breeze now; for a very organized working morning, breaking up what had to be done into time slots; for Imtiaz checking in for duty, removing weeds in the Stream at the Tidal Pool 🙏; for a good meeting with my client; for a late afternoon walk up to Maiden’s Cove and back, the breeze cooling things down and earning me 500 Miles today; for a phone chat to Stuart Bailey and Jenny Stephens; for making 1900 Discovery Miles in the first week of this year; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

More Restaurants closing, some temporarily, due to new Adjusted Level 3 Lockdown: January 2021

Just when news about restaurants closing down during Lockdown had almost ground to a halt, eight restaurants in Cape Town in the past week have announced their closure, some temporary, due to the new Adjusted Level 3 Lockdown which commenced on 29 December 2020.  The Curfew starting at 21h00, Restaurants having to close at 20h00, and alcohol sales not being allowed, combined with diners’ fear of the greater spreadability of the mutated Corona Virus, is affecting restaurant turnovers harshly.

Despite the Lockdown regulations affecting restaurants so badly in the past nine months, a total of 66 new restaurants have opened in Cape Town and the Winelands during Lockdown. Top chefs are opening new restaurants, including Chefs Peter Tempelhoff and Liam Tomlin. Continue reading →

Monday 14 December 2020, Day 85 of Level 1, Day 264 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a misty drizzly day until early afternoon, whereafter the sun emerged, a wintry feel; for a catch up admin and writing morning; for a walk through Camps Bay at lunch time, and through Bakoven this afternoon; for a meeting with the Chairman of our Camps Bay and Clifton Ratepayers Association Management Committee; for a town meeting cancelled at short notice, so I walked down a street I hadn’t been to in Bo-Kaap, photographing, even a cat that came up to me and started ‘chatting’ – I had a KitKat moment with the cat 😿; for a me-tea-treat at Bo-Kaap Deli, with great tea and very poor service, despite the boss sitting inside too; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a special day of being cared for and spoilt by two lovely ladies, Jenny Stephens and Chef Judi Fourie, taking my KitKat heartache away a little 💙💙; for a busy short morning, preparing for my weekly client status meeting; for a clean-up walk with my team in Bakoven this morning; for a good Earl Grey tea and croissant at Origin Coffee Roasters in De Waterkant, Jenny entertaining me with her stories since we last saw each other; for my client status meeting going well, so happy to hear that they have been fully booked last night and tonight, and the weekend looks busy too; for popping in at the first Thursday Night Market at the Old Biscuit Mill; for a spontaneous treat dinner at Pilcrow & Cleaver, Chef Judi giving me the whole bottle of The Valley Pinot Noir to take home when I was happy to just have a glassful, and for comping the meal too, such amazing kindness 🙏; for meeting artist Benjamin Salvatore at his exhibition at Speakers’ Corner, across the road from Pilcrow & Cleaver, having been invited by Katie Friedman, and being offered a Cointreau & Tonic, very tasty and refreshing; for the good news that the Western Cape is not affected by the tighter Lockdown regulations announced by our President this evening; and for being healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
