Restaurant Collective plea to Government: please reopen restaurants on 12 July, even if without alcohol!

 

The Restaurant Collective, which includes restaurants such as Tasha’s and Ocean Basket, has called on Government to not extend the Level 4 Lockdown Sit-Down Restaurant closure from 12 July.

The Restaurant Collective is a voluntary association which is ‘a unified voice for positive change for the Sit-down restaurant industry in South Africa’.  Its members are predominantly Johannesburg based, in a province which is currently severely struggling with Covid case numbers. Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a calm and peaceful day; for a beautiful sunny day but a chill initially, peaking at 18C; for a good writing morning and updating the Food Collection and Delivery list, as well as the restaurants opening for Sit-Down as well as the Restaurant Closure list; for an energetic walk to Clifton and back, with minimal litter; for a good fruit shop at Pick n Pay, the Woolies fruit shelves almost depleted, only having apples; for dancing to Kfm Dansdag; and for being happy and healthy 🙏💙

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 50 of Level 3, 20 July 2020.

 

Monday 20 July 2020, Day 50 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful day, but not as warm as yesterday; for an early wake-up, and a second snooze after having completed most of my writing; for a chat to a Camps Bay resident, who sought some advice of how we can assist families in our suburb that are struggling; for a good walk through Camps Bay and Bakoven done in one go; for catching up on my Food Delivery & Collection Group, having been very depressed about our poor Restaurant industry last week; for an amazing response time from Premier Alan Winde when I requested assistance for my Tourist Guide card and badge; for the fabulous news from Discovery Insure that they will cover the cost of the repair of the storm damage to my house in Hermanus, only having switched to the company two months ago 👏👏👏; for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Termination of Government support in paying staff UIF/TERS could lead to the death of the restaurant industry!

 

A survey conducted amongst restaurants by the international hospitality Esus-Group, has found that many restaurants reopened for Lockdown Sit-Down Service from 30 June, as the date coincided with the end date of the Government paying employees UIF/TERS, restaurants therefore being forced to reopen to be able to pay their staff. Sadly this may lead to the death of the restaurant industry, as they are using valuable cash to run a business which now has a turnover of 20% of that of last winter, the study shows!
