Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a lovely long day, which just got better, not feeling so well but all was forgotten when I got to newkings boutique hotel and Zest Restaurant and spent 7 hours there 😱, taking a one hour break to walk along the Sea Point Promenade, with waves crashing and creating spray, a very brave person standing very near the water’s edge; popping in at Woolies and Spar at Piazza da Luz, shopping for soup ingredients for the cold to come; for very good Status meetings with my clients; for a lovely Zest dinner with Michael McKenzie, visiting from McGregor, and staying over in the hotel; for meeting Marion Hentschel and her colleagues from SALT Concepts, tour operators I had written to on behalf of a client a few months ago and also dining at Zest; for a midday Camps Bay walk; and for being happy, healthy, and free. 🙏💙

My Blogpost today was about the new Spring Menu at Zest, R198 for 5 courses.

Zest Restaurant introduces Spring Menu : 5 courses at R198!

I had not seen Michael McKenzie in a year or so, so we had a lot to catch up. I tried the new calamari starter and a ginger beef fillet with mushrooms, while Michael had the Linefish of Red Roman with lentils. We were gifted a nightcap, Amaretto for Michael and Hennessy cognac for me. 🙏 My photographs did not do the dishes justice. It was nice to see how full the restaurant was and it had a lovely buzz. 💙 Michael had eaten at maze in London and at Table One in Shanghai at the time that Zest Head Chef Scott Melvin had worked there, so a very small world.  Michael has travelled the world as a hotel tester, so I was interested in his feedback.

What a lovely end to the day. ❤️❤️❤️

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March 2020 and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January 2021, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, moved back to Adjusted Level 2 on 31 May, moved back to level 3 on 16 June, and moved back to Adjusted Level 4 on 28 June, extended by two weeks on 11 July, and returned to Level 3 on 26 July, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
