Sunday 17 May 2020, Day 17 of Level 4, after 35 days at Level 5 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for my quietest day in the 52 days of Lockdown; for an energetic walk beyond Bakoven this morning, the Camps Bay Promenade being too full on weekend mornings; for Victoria Road in Bakoven having minimal dog poo; for a catch-up day back in bed for most of the day after the walk, catching up on the writing of others, and even a snooze, there being a slight nippiness in the air; for a shopping walk to refresh myself outside; for being rescued by PPA on my way home; for THE most amazing sunset tonight, listeners challenged by Kfm to send a pic, mine getting two special mentions, for 300 Discovery’s for my heart exertion rate for over an hour this morning; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙
It is not ideal to walk beyond the last houses in Bakoven toward the Twelve Apostles Hotel, as the pavement ends there. Then one must share the verge on the side of the road with dog walkers, runners, walkers and even cyclists, all trying to avoid the cars driving so fast. I was delighted to walk back via Kreef Lane, there being no one else walking there, even though the surface condition isn’t great.
There was a lot of litter in Camps Bay this afternoon and it seemed linked to an increase in the number of homeless persons, all congregating at the Law Enforcement Office, not wearing masks and no Social Distancing. I took a pic of them having created a washing line at the Tidal Pool and where they were sitting, and two of them came running up to me, wanting to grab my phone. I was in absolute luck that the PPA security van just drove past, they stopped and shouted at them in the most vile language, threatening all sorts of dreadful things. I know the officer, when he used to patrol Camps Bay. Now he is based in Clifton during Exercise Time, so we wave at each other regularly. 🙏
It was clear that something dreadful had happened in Bakoven, as I walked home, seeing hordes of people on a rock. Some passersby told me that it was a drowning, a person having slipped off the rock. Emergency vehicles flew past, all heading to the scene. 😢
Off to bed to watch movies now.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this week to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, and lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
