Friday 11 September 2020, Day 25 of Level 2, Day 169 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a warmer day, but not feeling like the forecast 23C; for a beautiful sunset combined with clouds, making for great photographs; for sleeping off all the horridness of yesterday afternoon, feeling energized and calm and peaceful today; for lunch with Henry at Firefly Café, which served food for the first time today; for a lovely trip to Regent Road in Sea Point, buying another pair of shorts at PnP Clothing and ordering more; for the surprise discovery of Bokeh Creative Space, a hairdresser/coffee bar opened on Regent Road by Adrian Lazarus last week, he recognizing me as a Facebook Friend (we had never met) and inviting me inside; for buying little treats at Spar and Woolies, the latter enlarged, having added the space of the former Tops; for a gift of five bespoke Kalahari Salts, delivered by Mark McCarthy from Iconic Brands; for another walk to Camps Bay, loving the sunset at the Tidal Pool and a long chat with Law Enforcement Officer Ivor Ramsay; for dancing to Kfm 💃; for hearing from my Camps Bay Clean helper Joel, not having done so in a month, coming back to work tomorrow; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

My Sweet Service Award went to the City of Cape Town, and the Sour Service Award to Sandak-Lewin Trust.

Firefly Café opened for food service for the first time today, a week after opening. I loved my scrambled egg and Avo breakfast lunch, and Henry had the strangest Nachos made with air-fried chips. There were a few hiccups, but they were willing to receive feedback and to fix what they could immediately. They are very Covid-conscious, in using disposable and biodegradable containers to serve the Food, bamboo cutlery, paper serviettes, and throw-away cups. But I could get a set of cutlery and have my Dilmah Earl Grey tea served in a proper cup and saucer.

The service at PnP Clothing was exceptionally good, my size shorts found at another store on their system, and they’ll have them sent to Sea Point.

What a surprise Bokeh Creative Space is, formerly a fish shop. Adrian Lazarus is the creative head of the Bokeh Film Fashion Festival, which I’ve attended previously. But I’d never spoken to Adrian before. He invited me inside the funky space, with the red carpet outside, and spunky oil drums turned into lockable cupboards for the hairdressers’ equipment. I met his mom Priscilla, who bakes the cakes, and I was offered the delicious chocolate cake to try. She bakes a mean carrot cake, which will be on offer from Monday. She offers one-on-one yoga classes from her home. They also serve croissants from Kleinskys nearby, not marking it up. Essentially they serve tea and coffee and the sweet treats, and have applied for a liquor license. What a lovely treat. #thankyou

What a lovely day it turned out to be. 🙏💙

And a special message I’ve just seen from Judy Lamprecht of Déjà Brew, one of our Women Restaurateurs, with whom I’m organizing to get her ADHARA olive oil gift to : ‘Please keep my gift and thank you so so much for everything you mean to our industry 😘’. 🙏💙

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, and lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
