Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for all the rain that fell throughout the night, especially the cloudburst at around midnight, and this morning; for keeping warm despite our coldest day this year; for making a good plan in spending a day off; for buying Quark at Dinkel Bakery, another Mutti memory; going back to The Labia for the first time in five months, feeling very safe with their adherence to Covid regulations and seat spacing, and loving seeing the entrance interior, with a few things moved around, and of course not jam-packed with moviegoers, being able to see the beautiful design of the Ticket Office and Snack Bar; for being able to return an item at Sportsman’s Warehouse at The Point Mall in Sea Point ; for having two Discovery vouchers with which I could buy Raw Nuts at DisChem; for finding a new pair of walking shorts at PnP Clothing, not my normal haunt 😱; for finding Chef Chen Sushi Bar, his new outlet having opened four weeks ago on the third floor of The Point, delicious….. ; for fleetingly seeing Rose Klein and her Werner on the escalators in opposite directions; for a quick drop in at Woolies and Pick n Pay Camps Bay; for a refreshing Bakoven walk; for no Loadshedding despite this icy weather; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

I had words with the two apartment renters in the block this morning, for an extraordinary loud blast of music last night, luckily not lasting too long. Each party (pardon the pun) blamed the other! 🥵

Quark is a homemade cottage cheese my mom used to make, which we ate as a dessert with preserved or fresh fruit compote. Dinkel Bakery has started selling it. It made my German heart pump. ❤️ So happy to hear from Cain that their business busyness is back to normal.

At the start of Lockdown I bought a discounted Labia Theater set of 10 movie vouchers, to help keep them afloat during Lockdown. My name was on a list, together with hordes of others (happy to see), and I received a Movie Card, with ten circles, my first one stamped. I saw ‘Marianne and Leonard’ in the upstairs cinema, dedicated to the great but also sad love story between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian Marianne, the two dying three months apart, long separated but always connected. ❤️ Three seats at a time are blocked off, alternated with two open for seating. The popcorn salting is done by the assistant, and the full Covid procedure of sanitizing one’s hands and having the temperature taken is followed.

Chef Chen worked at Willoughby’s a long time ago, and since then has done private catering. Now he has a beautiful Sushi Bar, with a lovely view of Lion’s Head, and one is able to see Chef Chen making the sushi dish (Prawn & Avo hand roll). A closed kitchen made the tempura dishes (pumpkin and prawns). They do Delivery and Collection too, and Chef Chen posted regularly on my Lockdown Food Delivery & Collection Facebook Group, but he has no recollection of my Group…. 😱. The Handroll was outstanding, with Mayo and his special secret sauce, as was the Pumpkin Tempura, crispy and crunchy. 🍣

It’s chilly already as the sun gets ready to set, so early to my warm bed.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, and lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
