Monday 5 October 2020, Day 15 of Level 1, Day 193 of Lockdown. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for such a fabulous Monday and start to a new week; for being spoilt with two restaurant invitations for today, the reopening day of Yumcious of Chef Jennifer Morris, and at Homespun by Matt in Bloubergstrand; for Henry finding Maya’s Sarong at the bottom of the pool when he cleaned it today; for a lovely weather day after a misty start; for a short sunset walk in Bloubergstrand, my only walk of the day; for a quick catfood shop at Checkers in Sea Point, offering by far the best Whiskas prices compared to Pick n Pay and TakeaLot, but such a pity that the service is so bad; for meeting such nice persons at our joint table at the Secret Supper Club at Homespun by Matt; for getting home safely from Blouberg just before curfew; for there being no damage to my car after last night’s taxi incident; and for being happy and healthy.🙏💙

My Blogpost today was an updated summary of the restaurants which have opened and closed since Lockdown. I was happy to see that only three restaurants closed down in September, and hope it stays this low. But when I was shopping in The Point Centre, I saw that Knead has just closed down.

Cape Town and Winelands Restaurant Closures slow down, a few have reopened, new restaurants are opening – October 2020.;

Chef Jenny Morris reopened Yumcious at the Cape Quarter today, after a long closure. She invited Naushad Khan and Roxanne Khan from House of K, Mark from Willowcreek, as well as Wendy Bergh and I to lunch. We could pre-order our meal for today, so I chose the Pork Belly. Jenny has created a special Lockdown menu, and is not yet able to reopen her very popular Salad Bar due to Covid regulations.

I should have gone for a walk when I returned home, but had a terrace snooze instead. I changed Maya back into her turquoise Sarong, it being a more striking colour.

As my time was running short I decided to leave for Blouberg earlier so that I could do a short walk at the Beachfront there. I watched some kite surfers getting ready, with the always beautiful backdrop of Table Mountain. It is only my second day in six months that I didn’t make 7500 or my usual 10000 steps. 😱

It was my first visit to Homespun by Matt. The exterior of the restaurant does not reflect what one finds once you step into this House of Magic, greeted with lit candelabras and a welcome drink of a 9-week barrel-aged Gin made by the Homespun team. The Secret Supper Club invitation came via Chef Prim Reddy Chapter, and I was lucky to sit next to her. Our table of ten included Stacey Robertson and Nick Meyer of One Fm, Lauren from Eat Out, a representative of Independent Newspapers, and Kurt Schlechter of Cause Effect Bar, with their partners. The dinner was the most magical, literally and figuratively, that I have experienced locally, of a Chef Heston Blumenthal caliber. We ate a 15-course Tasting Menu, with wine and music/sounds paired to each course. Oh my goodness. We were blown away. Superb service, with almost as many staff as diners. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️

As it is late, I will write a story about Homespun later this week. I’m posting a few of the dish photographs here, not yet Instagrammed.

What a lovely day. 🙏💙

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
